The following is a breakdown of the standard costs of doing business as an advisor, along with optional services you can elect to deepen your client offerings.

SIPC Assessment

SIPC Assessment:

Fee paid to the SIPC to cover the costs of failed brokerage firms. SIPC member assessments and interest on U.S. government securities bought by SIPC are deposited into the fund. When the fund falls below a target level, SIPC members are assessed on a percentage of their revenues.

0.13 percent of gross broker/dealer reallowance, semimonthly, per each revenue cycle

Standard Account Costs

The fees below are client costs. Some of these fees may not apply to all account types, and some may be waived under certain conditions. Commissions, markups, commission equivalents, and advisory fees are not included.

Electronic Payment Fee

Electronic Payment Fee:

Clients may pay for Wealth Management and Retirement Plan Consulting services they receive from advisors through electronic payment delivery (ePay) using a credit/debit card or ACH. Fees associated with these transactions are deducted from the advisor’s compensation.

- Electronic Payment (ePay) Credit/Debit Card: 3.25 percent of the amount charged for each transaction 

- ACH: $1 per transaction (costs deducted from advisor’s compensation)

Retirement Plan Consulting Fiduciary Education Training

Advisors must complete core fiduciary training to provide investment advisory services to qualified plans. You can complete the training through one of two methods:

  • Option 1: Commonwealth’s Fiduciary Education Training Program. Built by The Wagner Law Group, the training consists of eight core modules and two optional modules designed to ensure that advisors know their fiduciary responsibilities to qualified plans. The training is available for advisors who wish to offer fiduciary services and do not want to obtain a Commonwealth-approved third-party designation.

  • Option 2: Obtain an approved professional designation.
